The Palancas Negras are back in the finals for the first time since 2013. They made their debut at the 1996 edition hosted in South Africa. Their last eight finish in 2008 & 2010 remains their best record.
Angola have never previously progressed beyond the quarter-finals stage of the Africa Cup of Nations (2008 and 2010), being eliminated from their group in five of their seven previous appearances, including both of their last two.
Angola topped their qualifying group to reach the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, with forward Mateus scoring more goals than any other player in the group – four goals.
